Career

  • Director of Dartmouth's Biomedical Libraries since August 1996. Leadership in managing information resources and services for the Dartmouth Medical School (DMS), the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, the Department of Biological Sciences, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), multiple interdisciplinary programs, and components of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic/the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance. Responsible for the Dana Biomedical Library (Hanover campus) and the Matthews-Fuller Health Sciences Library (DHMC). Manage 30 biomedical librarians, technicians, and support staff that provide a full array of library and information resources and services. Organize and lead teams engaged in information resource development and management, research support and information retrieval, education services, document delivery services, access services, computer/learning resource center activities, and health and life science communities outreach and communication. Develop strategies to apply information and communication technologies to support education, research and scholarship, and patient care. Plan and manage annual budget of $4.5 million. Foster communication among a diverse and distributed user community. Reporting relationships to the Dean of Libraries/Librarian of the College and the Dean of the Dartmouth Medical School. Service on College Library, DMS, and DHMC committees and working groups.

  • Special Associate for Innovative Projects, Dartmouth College Library, April 2001-January 2004. Executive staff leadership in identifying and developing innovative programs for the Dartmouth College Library.
  • Associate Director for Information Services, the Biomedical Library, the University of Pennsylvania, January 1994-August 1996. Responsible for library user services: electronic and networked information resources, research support and information retrieval, educational services, document delivery services, access services, and outreach and communication. Primary user groups included the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, Biomedical Graduate Studies, the Department of Biology, and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and its affiliates and physician practices). Led several University Library committees and working groups, including ones charged with long-range strategic planning and information systems development.
  • Executive Assistant to the Director, the University of Chicago Library, August 1989-December 1993. Staff executive librarian responsible for developing and overseeing programs and services of the University Library representing all subject disciplines. Emphasis on long-range planning and capital and operation budgeting, and facilities planning and renovation. Designed and implemented a variety of special projects.
